Northern Central Finland, known as The Heart of Finland, is the most beautiful region in the province, with its vast lakes, rapids and ponds. The ruggedly beautiful Keitele, Kolima and Kivijärvi are the largest lakes in the area. The vast waterways are connected by numerous rushing rapids.

The beautiful rapids of Viitasaari, Huopanankoski and Keihärinkoski, and the Kolima-Keitele rapids route are well-known and wonderful fly fishing destinations. Other gems in the area include the Heijostenkosket in Karstula and the Hilmonkoski rapids in Kannonkoski.
Huopanankoski, once made famous by the writer Juhani Aho, is one of Finland’s most famous trout rapids, where sport fishing has been practiced since the 19th century. Huopanankoski is a versatile fishing destination, especially in the summer. There are a wide range of services available for both fishermen and visitors to the area.
