Basic information

Kivijärvi is located in northern Central Finland. The surrounding neighbouring municipalities are Kannonkoski, Karstula, Kinnula, Kyyjärvi, Viitasaari and Perho from the region of Central Ostrobothnia.
 
The population of Kivijärvi is about 1000. About half of the residents are of working age and about 40% are pensioners. The municipality covers an area of 599.9 km².
 
The main livelihoods are in the service sector, which account for about half of the companies in Kivijärvi. In addition, there are several agricultural and forestry companies. 1. Black Rooster

According to legend, a rooster placed on top of the bottom log has decided the location of the Kivijärvi church. According to the story, the church was built elsewhere, but the construction work did not progress, because the structure had always collapsed during the night. It was decided that the rooster will decide the place of the church, the church will be built where the rooster drifts to the shore. The black rooster and the log symbolize this story in the coat of arms of Kivijärvi.

2. Airport

There is an airport in Kivijärvi, about three kilometres from the city centre. The airport has a paved runway and its length is just over 900 meters. The airport is owned by Suomenselkä Airport Ltd, which is jointly owned by the municipality of Kivijärvi and 5 nearby municipalities and the city of Saarijärvi. The airport is used, for example, by small plane enthusiasts and paragliders.
  

3. Sweets from Kivijärvi

In Kivijärvi, there is a candy factory CandyWell, which manufactures e.g. pressed sweets. The factorys products are often offered on the shelves of loose candy, the most recognizable of which is rusty cars. In addition to loose candy, stores also sell readymade candy bags. The factory does not have its own store, but these sweets can be found on candy shelves throughout the country.

Kivijärvi has a Niliaitta for accommodation purposes. The granary is located in the Hannunkivi holiday village and it is built in a pine forest. Niliaitta rests on a single post, and lifting the building up from the ground opens up stunning views of the lake from the window.
